Questions 1-10
Borobudur Temple
Borobudur Temple, located in Central Java, Indonesia, is one of the world’s largest Buddhist monuments. Built during the 8th and 9th centuries under the Sailendra Dynasty, it was abandoned for centuries before being rediscovered in the early 19th century.
The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It features over 2,670 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues, making it a masterpiece of Buddhist art and architecture. The temple’s design symbolizes the path to enlightenment, with pilgrims ascending through three levels representing the world of desire, the world of forms, and the formless world.
Despite its historical significance, Borobudur faced threats from natural disasters, volcanic eruptions, and human neglect. Restoration efforts began in the 20th century, and today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major tourist attraction in Indonesia.
